Food Bank

Used egg cartons and plastic grocery bags in good condition are needed by The Twelve Baskets Food Bank as we repackage eggs and package other food for clients.  Please recycle these items to us.  They may be left in the entrance to the church any Saturday and Sunday and they will be picked up on Sunday after mass.  Thank you for your generosity.

Large ChaliceStarting next weekend, January 16-17 (Annapolis Royal – Saturday 4:30pm, Middleton – Saturday 7pm & Sunday 11am, Bridgetown – 9am), we will begin the regular practice of offering a “Liturgy of the Word with Communion” at certain churches in our area.  Dispensation is given to all parishioners to attend this service in lieu of a Sunday Mass.

Eventually, this will happen every 3rd weekend throughout 1 of the 3 routes of the area covered between Windsor and Annapolis Royal … and since we have 3 routes within our area this should affect you once every nine weekends.

Please note:

1.  Our 3 routes are:  Western – Annapolis Royal, Bridgetown, Middleton, Central – Berwick,     Kentville, Canning, and Eastern – Wolfville, Hantsport, Windsor.

2. This “Liturgy of the Word with Communion” does not affect the Saturday 6pm Mass at Acadia University or the Sunday 5pm Mass in Kentville.

3.  Initially, these liturgies will be led by a deacon … eventually, we would also like to see them “lay-led” with 1 man and 1 woman.  Deacon Dave Hasler (of Berwick) will be leading the services on January 16-17.  Deacon Don Boudreau (of Middleton) will lead the services in the

Central route on January 30-31.  Deacon Jerry Clement (of Kentville) will lead the services in the Eastern route on February 20-21.  And Deacon Paul Lannan (of Kentville) will lead the services back in the Western route … that’s your route … on March 12-13.

4.   Past practice has been to offer Communion outside of the Mass.  The Archbishop has asked us to continue this for now.  This practice (with Communion) was never meant to be the common practice on a long-term basis … so the Archbishop is consulting within the Archdiocese and with other parts of Canada as to what is the best thing to do on a long-term basis.

Fr. John MacPherson

Effective the 1st week of Advent (Monday, Nov. 30 – Friday, Dec. 4) all regularly scheduled weekday Masses will take place at St. Joseph's in Kentville.

Both Fr. Craig Cameron and I are trying to simplify our weekdays enabling a bit more flexibility in our schedules to do other things.  Having said that, we would like to schedule "special" Masses during the week – maybe monthly – for specific reasons – eg. Healing Masses (with the Sacrament of the Sick), Patron Saints, Vocations, and other special intentions.  We will probably avoid the Winter months (January to March).  Rather than simply having a weekday Mass scheduled in each church we would like it to be more deliberate in its intent – possibly bringing out more local participation – thus helping us to be more efficient with our "presence."

We thank you for your help and generosity of spirit.

Fr. John MacPherson
